Community Music School looking for Executive Director

Founded in 1924, Community Music School offers individual lessons, classes and ensembles for over 750 children and adults each year at its Elmwood Avenue site, five satellite locations and three collaborative after-school programs in Western New York. CMS is committed to providing musical public service programs to Western New York and quality music instruction for individuals of all ages and levels of ability regardless of aspirations or financial resources. The professional faculty, administrative staff and volunteers believe that anyone who has a genuine interest in music can benefit from study and deserves the opportunity to pursue it.

The Community Music School of Buffalo is seeking an Executive Director, responsible for continuing the 86-year-old institution's history of arts excellence, integrity and responsiveness to the community. This is an exciting time for CMS and will require dynamic leadership and vision as the school focuses on expanding its enrollment and base of support.

The responsibilities of the Executive Director encompass both management and artistic functions, overseeing operations and providing artistic direction that attracts, retains and motivates the highest quality faculty, staff and volunteers; managing the school's budget and finances, fund-raising, marketing, human resources, strategic planning and overseeing the school's faculty and staff. The Executive Director also directs and evaluates the school's curricula and programs, coordinates performances, exams and scholarships. The position reports to the school's board of trustees.

Qualifications 

• Must have a minimum of 5 years of comparable experience running a non-profit agency or program

• Arts/music administration/management experience

• Candidate should be organized, enthusiastic, with good communication and computer skills, able to work with adults and children, professionals and volunteers

• Must have significant fund raising experience

• Ability to read, interpret and generate financial statements/budgets

• Proven track record of collaboration

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
